This tour will have you enjoying some spooky storeis; historical facts; and experiencing unexplained events that occur throughout Bedford County.

9:30 am

Meet our costumed guide in the parking lot of Hoss's Steak and Sea House (located directly across from the PA Turnpike Exit 146 Bedford, PA along Business Route 220).

You will then immediately journey to the Bedford Springs Hotel (Summer White House of President James Buchannan) and learn about its curative mineral springs. You will be joined by author Patti Wilson (if available) who has documented various ghost stories that are well known in the area.

10:15 am

A visit to a pre-revolutionary cemetery conjures up a tale or two. Then learn about the one of the oldest operating courthouses in the Commonwealth; a Civil War monument; and the Espy House (President George Washington's headquarters during the Whiskey Rebellion).

11 am

A tour of the reconstructed Fort Bedford Museum will give you an insight into early colonization of western Pennsylvania. Some of the artifacts have reached this museum in unusual ways, and your imagination can run wild when you see Indian artifacts, doctors bags and surgical instruments, early rifles and flags. Believe it or not, there is even a coin that was shot out of the air by Annie Oakley!

12 noon

Lunch will be on your own in downtown historic Bedford. You can enjoy lunch and shopping in the Founders Crossing (3-story antique and crafts co-op featuring the deli, The Eatery). Also available for dining are OIP's pizzaria, the Golden Eagle Inn, and the K&M Restaurant. Nearby shops offer lots of gifts and treasures.

1:15 pm

Who knows what or who lurkes in and under the historic covered bridges that now come into view ... Snook's, Cuppett's, Dr. Kniseley's, and the Ryot Covered Bridges. There may even be a fortune teller forecasting the future.

2 pm A stop will be made at Faye's Candies for a sample (or purchase) and then to Davis Orchards for locally grown fruit (if during the Fall season).

Faye's Candies: (814) 839-2865

3 pm

Wow! Now for a grand attraction --- Gravity Hill --- where your motor coach will drift backwards .... uphill without the motor running at a speed of 10-15 mph. You will see a demonstration where water defys the laws of gravity, too! Why does it happen? Maybe you can explain it!

3:45 pm The next stop will be the 1806 Schellsburg Log Church and cemetary. While reading the epitaphs you will learn about an early epidemic that took many lives in the area. The church can be opened by advance request.

Church; Mrs. Egolf: (814) 733-2981

Fee: $1/per person*

4:15 pm

Learn about the Tulls Hill Massacre.

4:30 pm

Don't be surprised if you hear a skirt rustling by you and can't see a figure ... it may be one of the ghosts that inhabit the Jean Bonnet Tavern. You will be dining in one of the earliest taverns in the area and will hear chilling and hair raising stories about ghost sightings; bodies unearthed during renovations and learn about a hanging in the mail stairwell! Enjoy a delicious dinner before your departure!

Your guide will depart at the original pickup point, Hoss's Steak and Sea House.
